Former FBI Director Robert Mueller has died at the age of 81, and President Donald Trump gave a sharp reaction on Truth Social.

“Robert Mueller just died,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!” Trump added.

Mueller led the FBI from 2001 to 2013 and later served as special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election, a probe that shadowed much of Trump’s presidency.

He ultimately found no criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer withdrew a subpoena for Mueller to testify in the panel’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation after his family said he was suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

A 2001 Justice Department memo warned that no nation, including the United States, was immune from the threat posed by Russian organized crime. The special counsel investigation is bringing attention to Russian efforts to meddle in democratic processes, the type of intelligence gathering that in the past has relied on hired hackers. It’s not clear how much the probe by Mueller will center on the criminal underbelly of Moscow, but he’s already picked some lawyers with experience confronting organized crime. The committee had initially subpoenaed Mueller to appear in September 2025, but later withdrew the request after learning of his condition.

Mueller, who was diagnosed in 2021, had difficulty with speech and mobility and was unable to appear before Congress, his family said at the time.
